Spec Collaboration

Virtual Production

Build the future by making it.

Unlimited Possibilities

A Community-Powered Production Experiment

We created a collaborative virtual production spec on an LED volume to bring together local industry professionals, strengthen community, and push emerging technology. The project challenged us to sharpen our skills across every stage of production, from creative direction to virtual production workflows, while refining new, more efficient ways of working.

30+ creatives came together and we created a masterpiece. We set out to gather amazing people, create stunning visuals, learn a bunch and have a blast. And we did just that!

Why Virtual Production

Traditional location shoots come with constant challenges, from unpredictable weather and shifting light to complex logistics and safety constraints. Company moves add time, cost, and limit creative scope. Virtual production removes those barriers, giving creators full control to build and shape entire worlds inside the studio, streamlining production while expanding what is creatively possible.

What We Saw

A New Creative Frontier
Experienced crews. New Tools. Seamless Transition.

We brought together local industry professionals to collaborate, grow as a community, and push the limits of emerging technology. The project challenged us to work across every stage of production while refining more efficient virtual production workflows. Driven by a shared passion for technology and filmmaking, we saw firsthand how virtual production is reshaping storytelling, giving creators unprecedented creative control, precision, and efficiency.

Creative Liberation

For us, using virtual production was incredibly liberating. It felt like we held the keys to unlock endless worlds, each waiting for us to explore and shape them according to our imagination. From bustling cityscapes to tranquil natural settings, we had the power to visit diverse locations in a single day, all while retaining full control over every aspect. It was an experience that truly expanded the horizons of our creativity.

Creativity In Real-Time

Unreal Engine, originally designed for video game development, has become a game-changer in the realm of virtual production, particularly in the implementation of volume walls. These walls, typically composed of LED screens, seamlessly integrate with Unreal Engine to create immersive, lifelike environments that react dynamically to camera movements and lighting changes in real-time. By harnessing the power of Unreal Engine, filmmakers can transport themselves and their audiences to any location imaginable, all within the controlled confines of a studio. This revolutionary approach not only enhances creative flexibility but also streamlines the production process, offering unprecedented efficiency and realism in vitual production workflows.

Our journey

Learning at full speed.
From Concept to Reality

The project began as a passion-driven collaboration among friends looking to strengthen their virtual production portfolios, free from client constraints. As interest grew, we brought together a diverse team of seasoned professionals and first-time LED volume collaborators, united by a shared curiosity and belief in the future of virtual production. With roots in Michigan, the project reflected both a commitment to advancing virtual storytelling and contributing to the region’s growing creative community.

The production took place on an ambitious timeline, with limited prep and rehearsal followed by an intensive two-day shoot. As momentum built, interest spread organically, bringing in additional collaborators through personal connections. The project was completed pro-bono, with everyone contributing time, talent, and resources to bring it across the finish line.
